Meine lange Fahrradtour von der Antarktis in die Arktis ging mit meiner Arbeit für das schwedische Filmteam in den arktischen Regionen der Welt zu Ende. Gedanken für ein neues Erlebnis und Abenteuer weg vom Kuchen backen und Suppen kochen wirbelten in meinem Kopf herum. Schreiben und Fotografieren waren mein Traum und realistisch auch umsetzbar. Ich hatte schon einige Berichte geschrieben und auch publiziert doch fehlten mir die Kontakte zu den Medien. Ich war überzeugt, dass meine Aktivitäten als freier Mitarbeiter und Mountain Biker zum Erfolg führen könnten. Während meiner Fahrradtour zurück nach Südtirol hatte ich viel Zeit um mir ein Konzept im Kopf auszuklügeln wie ich diese Hürde bewältigen könnte. Mein Optimismus und mein Mut, Neues zu probieren ist mir immer wie eine treue Seele beigestanden. Es war Zufall, dass ich in der Südtiroler Tageszeitung den “Dolomiten“eine Annonce für freie Mitarbeiter gesehen habe. Mit einem Essay und Bildmaterial stellte ich mich in der Redaktion vor. Meine Ideen und wie ich mir diese Zusammenarbeit vorstellte wurden bisschen hin und her gerückt und ich hatte einen neuen Job als Mitarbeiter im Athesia Verlag. Meine Aufgabe war es den Lesern das Thema Radreisen mit Kurzgeschichten von meinen Reisen näher zu bringen. Aus meiner Perspektive war Südtirol zu dem Zeitpunkt das Traumland in Europa um Mountainbike Touren anzubieten. Die Landschaft, die Infrastruktur, endlose Möglichkeiten mit dem Mountainbike durch die wunderbare Bergwelt zu streifen waren meine Gründe als Journalist und Mountainbiker in Südtirol zu arbeiten.

My very long bicycle tour [4 years and 55.000 km] from Antarctica to the Arctic came in the northern parts of Norway to an end. I got myself a job cooking for a Film team on a boat with Max von Sydow in the title role. It always amazed me how things just happened in my favour. Cycling made me happy. I managed to do things I wanted to do and felt that freedom most travellers are looking for. On my way back to South Tyrol I had a lot of time to think about my next adventures travelling with my bicycle. I wanted to get away from baking cakes in bakeries and cooking soups in hotels. I felt with all the experiences I had and the Mountain bike scene becoming very popular I wanted to work with a publishing house, writing stories. I had some stories about my cycling trips published, but I needed contacts in the bike scene. By chance I saw an article in the local newspaper and they were looking for people writing stories about cycling and cycle touring. It did not take me long to have an Expose organized. My presentation was appreciated and to my surprise I got the job on offer. South Tyrol had everything one could wish for to welcome Mountain Biker and Cyclists alike. I did force the Issue of having books published with MTB Tours with lots of information’s like overnight stays, places to visit and road conditions. The job seemed what I loved to do and I enjoyed the many Tours I did during the summer. There was no better job in sight for me. I decided to stay in South Tyrol working in my job as Pastrycook during the skiing season in winter and doing my own thing during the summer. It was an ideal situation and a lovely job.
